Isogrid has been used in the aerospace industry for years to create lightweight, easy to analyze structures. Typically isogrid cylinders, such as rocket booster structures, are machined as a flat sheet, roll formed and then finally welded together. McCloud Aero is pioneering low cost isogrid cylinders where the isogrid is machined directly using inexpensive aluminum pipe and tube using a 4-axis CNC Router.
To achieve tight tolerances, McCloud Aero has also developed a cylindrical auto-leveling technology to achieve skin and rib thickness tolerances down to 0.005″ (0.127 mm”).
Currently, we can manufacture cylinders up to 12.75 in (324 mm) in diameter and up to 40″ (1016 mm) in length. If longer cylinders are needed, multiple sections can be welded together.
